Will The European Union Ever Wake Up To Communist China’s Unfair Trading Advantages I

On Friday 12th May 2023, Ministers of the European Union gave their support to a plan to reduce the bloc’s economic reliance on communist China, although the specifics of how this would be achieved are still being worked out. Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy chief, stated that the plan would focus on mainland China as a political rival, whilst maintaining its status as a partner on global issues and economic growth. Borrell emphasised that the aim was not to completely disengage from China, but rather to rebalance the relationship. However, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis warned that the EU should be prepared for a scenario where de-coupling from the childish communist dictatorship could easily become necessary due to unforeseen circumstances. The plan comes amid concerns that the EU is too heavily reliant on China for key technologies, such as solar panels, as well as for critical materials. Borrell noted that the EU is currently more dependent on China for these materials than it had been on Russian energy before Moscow’s war in Ukraine. The proposal states that the EU should look to diversify its sources of supply in key sectors, particularly those necessary for the bloc’s green and digital transition. As we are all well aware communist China could not care less about the green agenda as they are by far the biggest polluters on the planet.
