Congresswoman And Majority Leader Reintroduce Resolution Denouncing Socialism

On January 26, Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar, working with House Majority Leader Stephen Joseph Scalise, re-introduced House Concurrent Resolution 9, “Denouncing the Horrors of Socialism,” which condemns the cruel and unjust ideology of socialism and ensures America’s commitment to never begin, or normalize the implementation, of socialism and political authoritarianism that inevitably leads to economic collapse. The resolution outlines, several historical examples of socialism’s greatest crimes and tragedies, and why such a system is contrary to America’s great founding principles. It highlights, in particular, the examples of the former Soviet Union, PRC, Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and Venezuela. “The district I represent is one that knows the failures of socialism all too well,” said Congresswoman Salazar. “My constituents understand firsthand the consequences socialist ideology brought to our continent: misery, oppression, and exile. I am proud to introduce a resolution that makes it clear… socialism fails wherever it has been tried, and we don’t want it here.” “The natural progression of socialist and communist policies is to a totalitarian state that deprives its citizens of basic freedoms and human rights,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. “The American people know this – they’ve seen the horrors of communism and the tens of millions killed by regimes in China, the Soviet Union, North Korea, and elsewhere. Hundreds of thousands of Russians, Chinese, Cambodians, Koreans, Cubans, and Venezuelans have fled from murderous communist dictatorships and have legally resettled here in America. They are a living testament to the barbarity of these socialist regimes and the promise of the American dream.” The resolution was first introduced in July 2021 and was supported by 75 members of the House of Representatives.
