Real-Name Registration For Hong Kong Prepaid SIM Cards

The Hong Kong government will fully implement real-name registration for all pre-paid SIM cards from February 23. Any existing SIM cards which are not registered by then will be deactivated. The Hong Kong SAR Government Communications Authority said on January 25 that there are still many unregistered cards for sale on the market and the cards can only be activated by completing the registration before the deadline. The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passed the Hong Kong National Security Law on June 30, 2020. The Telecommunications (Registration of SIM Cards) Regulation, commonly known as the “Real-Name Registration Programme”, came into effect on September 1, 2021. The Hong Kong government has also set up mobile support stations at 25 MTR stations to help the public, especially the elderly, to complete the registration process as soon as possible. Very soon, the Hong Kong government will have complete control over all telecommunications in Hong Kong. This technological handcuff together with the national security laws will ensure the Chinese Communist Party has a tight rein over the Hong Kong people. The plot of the book “1984” is now a reality in 2023 Hong Kong and it is self-evident who Big Brother is.
