Indian army and PLA clashed on the Disputed Border Communist China’s People’s Liberation Army and the Indian army have clashed in a disputed Himalayan border, injuring dozens of troops on both sides. Two years ago, the Indian army and PLA had violent hand-to-hand combat in Galwan valley that killed 24 soldiers. This time the clash occurred in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pra-desh, with a few soldiers suffering minor injuries.

The Indian army said that both sides immediately disengaged from the area and met with both commanders to “restore peace and tranquility.” On Tuesday, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in the parliament that the encounter started when Chinese troops “encroached into Indian territory” and “unilaterally tried to change the status quo” along the disputed border. He added that the Indian soldiers respond-ed with firmness, prevented the Chinese army from “transgressing into our territory, ” and forced them to return to their posts. India and China share a disputed 3,440km border called the LAC (Line of Actual Control), which is also poorly demarcated. Due to the presence of lakes, rivers, and snow-caps, the line sometimes shifts. The soldiers on either side – representing two of the world’s largest armies come face to face at many points. Tensions sometimes escalate, but both sides have tried to de-escalate since the major battle in June 2020 in the Galwan Valley.
