Washington, Tokyo And Seoul To Discuss And Coordinate Individual Additional Measures Against Pyongyang

On November 22nd, a South Korean media reported that the UN Security Council (UNSC) held an open meeting on the issue of North Korea’s intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launched on the 21st, but failed to release a joint statement and other outcomes due to the objection from Communist China and Russia. After the meeting, South Korea, U.S., Japan, U.K., France and other countries condemned the North Korea and also issued separate statements accusing the UNSC of making no appropriate response. Cho Hyeon-dong, the First Vice Foreign Minister of South Korea, had a phone call with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister, Mori Takeo that morning, condemning North Korean’s provocative launch for its destabilizing effect on the region and saying they will discuss and coordinate individual with additional measures at the state level in addition to the UNSC’s previous measures which they are determined to continue their efforts. The three vice ministers unanimously believed that there were absolutely no grounds to justify Pyongyang’s unlawful provocation and brazen violations of multiple UNSC resolutions. Washington, Tokyo and Seoul would continue to strengthen the joint defense posture and trilateral security cooperation.
