Deteriorating Political And Economical Social Environment Leading To Negative Population Growth In China

On November 20th, multiple media reported that, according to the statistics from the Chinese official, a total of 10.62 million people were born in China during 2021, a new low in recent years. The net increase in population was 480,000, a new low in 60 years. The national total population reached the warning line of negative growth. Of the 31 provinces and cities, there are 13 with negative natural population increase rates, mostly in northeast, north, central, Sichuan and Chongqing regions in the southwest of China. Among them, Jiangsu Province, Hubei Province, Hunan Province, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi Province and Tianjin City turning negative for the first time in decades. Since 2020, the fertility rate in China has been lower than Japan’s, and the aging phenomenon will be even more severe. Analysts believe that China is facing a demographic crisis that may be far worse than the figures disclosed by the Chinese officials. Xi Jinping’s harsh Zero-Covid campaign and lockdowns has led to a sluggish economy, climbing unemployment and growing uncertainty among young people about their future. Combined with the destruction of fertility by the CCP virus vaccines, the decline of population in China will be irreversible and further deteriorate. A declining workforce and increasing aging will cause China to lose its cost advantage in manufacturing.
