Russian-Made Missile Falls On Farm Near Polish Border, Killing Two People

Two people were killed when a missile exploded on the evening of Tuesday on a farm in Przevodów, a village in eastern Poland near the Ukrainian border, according to foreign media reports on Nov. 16. U.S. President Joe Biden held an “emergency” meeting with the leaders of the G7 and NATO in Indonesia the following day. At the beginning of the event, a statement from the Polish Foreign Ministry said the weapon was Russian-made. Polish President Andrzej Duda immediately held a meeting of the National Security Council, after which he released a cautious statement that the missile launch site still needed further investigation. The Russian Defense Ministry denied any attacks on targets near the Ukrainian-Polish border. Three U.S. officials said on anonymity that preliminary assessments suggested the missile was an air defense missile fired by Ukrainian forces that day at an incoming Russian missile when Ukrainian electrical infrastructure was subject to a devastating attack. Russia launched missiles intensively over several days, massively striking energy facilities across Ukraine and causing widespread power outages. Moscow reportedly fired at least 85 missiles aimed at the power facilities. The attack even affected a major cable in neighboring Moldova, causing power outages over a large area. According to the latest news, Polish President Andrzej Duda said the defensive missile was probably the Ukrainian Defense Forces’ S-300 missile made by Russia in the 1970s. Ukraine still maintains stocks of weapons the former Soviet Union and Russia made. Andrzej stressed that there was no sign that this was a deliberate attack on Poland. In this regard, Stoltenberg, secretary-general of NATO, said that the tragedy might have been caused by either an accident in the Ukrainian air defense system or the unfortunate incident that the defensive missile changed direction and fell onto Polish territory during the interception process. There is no doubt that Kremlin, which waged this war, should take ultimate responsibility.
