Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry Warns the Risks of Dealing with Communist China

According to a foreign media report on November 9, the Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a stern warning that Canadians should consider the “geopolitical risks” of doing business with Communist China and announced that it would reset all foreign policies towards Beijing within a month. Foreign Minister Melanie Joly presented her sharpest criticism of the CCP’s growing expansion ambitions, including the crackdown on Hong Kong, alleged intention to reunify with Taiwan by force, human rights violations and atrocities against the Uyghurs in Xinjiang, and other actions conflicting with the Western interests and values, calling the regime a global evil force with destructive power. As a result, she vowed to change its policy toward Beijing and to push back hard against the CCP’s threat in the region by implementing a new Indo-Pacific strategy. In response to the CCP’s longstanding large-scale political interference in Canada, Joly stressed the importance of taking measures to curb the infiltration of the hostile force, both domestically and in the digital field, while distinguishing between the CCP regime and the Chinese people. At the same time, the federal government will help Canadian entities that trade with Communist China, particularly those in key mineral sectors, decouple from them in order to diversify and reduce national security and economic risks.
