
As of 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 3rd, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) detected14 military aircraft and four naval ships sent by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Out of those 14 People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, only one Shaanxi Y-9 electronic warfare plane was monitored in the southwest corner of Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), according to the Ministry of National Defense. The other 13 PLA aircraft did not cross the median line in the Taiwan Strait.

To respond the move, Taiwan sent combat patrol aircraft, naval vessels and used land-based missile systems to monitor PLA aircraft and vessels, in addition to issuing radio warnings.
Since September 2020, the CCP has increased its use of gray zone tactics by frequently sending aircraft into Taiwan’s ADIZ.
So far in October, the CCP has sent 44 PLA military aircraft and 12 naval vessels to patrol around Taiwan.
