The Party Infighting Intensifies Before the 20th Congress of the CCP

On September 1, Beijing time, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) released a news article on its website. It states that after the investigation, Liu Yanping( 刘彦平), former head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group, and former member of the Party Committee of the Ministry of State Security, was expelled from the Party and removed from all public positions due to severe disciplinary violations.

According to the CCP’s rules for disciplining its cadres and the pattern of its public statement, Liu Yanping lost his party principles, participated in Sun Lijun’s (孙力) political gang, trampled on law and order, and abused his power. Moreover, Liu participated in superstitious activities, lived a corrupt life, engaged in power-money-sex trades, and illegally seized large sums of money and property.

At the same time, Wang Bin (王滨), former party secretary and chairman of China Life Insurance Company, was also expelled from the Party and removed from all positions for accepting bribes, abusing power, and manipulating the market. According to Miles Guo, Liu Yanping was a political henchman of Zeng Qinghong (曾庆红) and served Zeng Qinghong’s family interests. Even with Zeng Qinghong’s lobbying, Liu Yanping was still double expelled from both being a party member and all public positions.

Wang Bin, on the other hand, is one of Wang Qishan’s (王岐山) money laundering agents, in addition to Kang Dian (康典), Tian Guoli (田国立), Tian Huiyu (田惠宇), and Zhou Liang (周亮). China Life Insurance Company is a platform for Wang Bin to funnel the interests of the CCP kleptocrats and their families. Before the 20th Congress of the CCP, the Zeng family’s henchman and Wang Qishan’s money laundering agents were disciplined and double-expelled one after another. This shows the internal struggle amongst different cliques within the CCP are very intense.
