According to reports on August 22th, Executives from a nonpartisan parliamentary organization that aims to promote relations between Japan and Taiwan have arrived in Taiwan, and are scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen.
It is crucial to strengthen the long-standing mutually beneficial partnership between Taiwan and Japan, which is conducive to an emerging counterbalance posture to Communist China.
Chairman of the Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council Furuya Keiji and the council’s secretary general, Kihara Minoru, met with President Tsai Ing-wen the day after they arrived in Taiwan. They stressed the importance they attach to their relations with Taiwan during this meeting.
Following the U.S. House speaker’s visit to Taiwan for the first time in 25 years earlier this month, tensions in Taiwan have risen. China fired ballistic missiles in that area. As tensions escalate, the visit may encounter opposition from China.
