Latvia, a NATO member, published a statement on August 11th, and declared that Russia is a “state sponsor of terrorism.” The parliament also declared that Russia’s actions amount to “genocide against the Ukrainian people.” Members of parliament also call on other European nations to “express the same opinion.”
MPs have accused Moscow of deploying internationally banned munitions to “spread fear and kill civilians.” They deemed that Russia’s violent action against civilians for a political purpose is a sponsor of terrorism. They also called on the European Union to stop issuing tourist visas to Russian and Belarusian citizens, also new visa issuance should be suspended for Russian and Belarusian.
The statement was supported by all 67 lawmakers out of the 100-seat parliament. Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba expresses his gratitude for the “timely” announcement.
