PRC Foreign Ministry: Thousands of Chinese Restaurant in Taipei Makes Taiwan Part of PRC

It is reported on Aug 8th, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying set off an online storm with a late-night tweet. She referred to a map search result of Chinese restaurant in Taipei as evidence that “Taiwan is part of People’s Republic of China (PRC).”
Hua wrote in the tweet: “Baidu Maps show that there are 38 Shandong dumpling restaurants and 67 Shanxi noodle restaurants in Taipei, Palates don’t cheat. #Taiwan has always been a part of China. The long lost child will eventually return home.”
Her tweet prompted thousands of Twitter users to rebut her ridiculous logic:
“There are over 100 ramen restaurants in Taipei, so Taiwan is definitely a part of Japan.”
“Google Maps show that there are 17 McDonalds, 18 KFCs, 19 Burger Kings, and 19 Starbucks in Beijing. Palates don’t cheat. #China has always been a part of America. The long lost child will eventually return home.” (The actual number should be much higher)
Tweeting on foreign-related social media banned by the Chinese Government is a common practice for Chinese diplomats, and it’s not the first time their comments have raised eyebrows. The CCP’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has tweeted that “the U.S. military might have brought COVID-19 to China.”
