EU Announces an Additional 500 Million Euros To Ukraine For Military Aid

According to a report, the European Council adopted two assistance measures under the European Peace Facility (EPF) aimed at strengthening the EU’s support for the capabilities and resilience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and protect the civilian population against the ongoing Russian military aggression. Thanks to the 5th tranche worth EUR 500 million mobilized, the EU contribution under the EPF for Ukraine will now total EUR 2.5 billion.

It is noted that the current priorities expressed by the Ukrainian government and the support provided so far, the assistance measures include 490 million euros for the provision of lethal military equipment for defensive purposes, and 10 million euros for the provision of equipment and supplies, such as personal protective equipment, first aid kits and fuel.

“The EU remains focused and steadfast in its support for Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence. Ukraine needs more arms; we will provide them. In this context, EU Member States agreed to mobilize a fifth tranche of military assistance of EUR 500 million, making this a total of EUR 2.5 billion of military equipment to the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said.

Since Russia began its full-scale aggression on February 24th, the EU has provided strong political, economic, financial, military, and humanitarian assistance to Kyiv.

The previous batches of military assistance under the EPF, each in the amount of 500 million euros, were agreed on February 28th, March 23rd, April 13th, and May 23rd respectively.
