It is reported that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy held a conference call with Brazilian President Bolsonaro on July 18th. After briefing the war with Russia, Zelenskyy urged Bolsonaro to join the US and European sanctions against Russia. While Brazil has stated its opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Bolsonaro has yet to sanction Russia, due to his deep personal ties with Russian President Putin.
Zelenskyy tweeted that ” Had a conversation with President of Brazil. Informed about the situation on the front. Discussed the importance of resuming grain exports to prevent a global food crisis provoked by Russia. I call on all partners to join the sanctions against the aggressor.” For its part, Brazil has not yet taken a position.
