South Korea and Singapore Foreign Ministers Held Talks to Discuss Multiple Cooperations

According to media reports on July 7th, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin held talks and dinner with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan on the July 6th.

Minister Park commented that Singapore is one of the ASEAN member states that mainly cooperates with South Korea in economic cooperation. It is also the first partner in infrastructure construction and the core partner country of South Korea’s policy toward ASEAN that pursues common prosperity in the region. He also said that in the future, the scope of cooperation between the two countries will be expanded to future-oriented fields such as digital and energy.

They noted the conclusion of the Korea-Singapore Digital Partnership Agreement (KSDPA). South Korea is advancing to join the Digital Economy Partnership Agreement (DEPA) among digital leading countries. The cooperation between the two countries is strengthening, so both nations decided to speed up the process of reaching agreement in the future.

Minster Park expressed and hoped the South Korean and Singapore government will continue to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual concern. These areas include human capital, culture, and digital infrastructure, which are in high demand on the ASEAN side. The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on the Korean Peninsula issue, the situation in Ukraine and other recent major regional as well as international issues. South Korea and Singapore decided to expand their role and contributions to resolving issues both regionally and internationally. Both countries plan to work in close cooperation with each other to achieve infrastructure goals and resolving regional and global issues by realizing close cooperation between the Republic of Korea, a global pivotal country (GPS: Global Pivotal State), and Singapore, a core country in the region.
