The FCC Authorizes Starlink To Be Used On Vehicles

On June 30th, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) authorized Elon Musk’s Starlink to be used in mobile vehicles to provide broadband services to commercial airlines, ships and trucks.

Starlink has launched 2,700 satellites in low-Earth orbit, and these satellites build a Wi-Fi network in the sky dedicated to bringing stable Internet service to rural or remote areas. The FCC said it authorized a new type of terminal to Starlink so that it could expand broadband capabilities to meet growing customer needs, such as connecting to the Internet on the move. Earlier Starlink provided services to Gulfstream jets and US military aircraft. In recent months, Starlink has signed similar deals with Hawaiian Airlines and semi-private jet service JSX.

At present, several companies are competing in the industry, including Starlink, OneWeb and Kuiper.
