Learned from Russian-Ukrainian War, U.S. will Sell Asymmetric Combat Weapons to Taiwan

It is reported on June 14, meeting records between the U.S. State & Department of Defense and U.S.-Taiwanese Business Council this spring were obtained and published. One participant, a senior officer of U.S.

Defense Department said in U.S.-Taiwan Business Council meeting, which included a lot of companies in the U.S. military, that the principles of selling weapons to Taiwan military has “greater priority on selling asymmetric weapons.”The U.S. security expert said that the reason for selling asymmetric weapons (flexible mobility, cheap price, flexible response) to Taiwan, is that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) most probably will invade Taiwan within a few years, and the CCP is likely to use a large number of precise missiles in the first strike of landing operation. For current Taiwan’s weapon arsenal, it is hard to self-defence, but it is very important to use asymmetric weapon to counter the attack.

According to lessons from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, using anti-ship missiles, intelligence gathering system to identify enemy movements and early warning system as asymmetric weapons are very powerful in modern warfare. And the U.S. set selling anti-ship missiles and missile defense system to Taiwan as a priority.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) will hit CCP harder and harder both in military and economy; the pace of the CCP’s invasion to Taiwan will be faster and faster in order to break through the impasse. In such circumstances, Taiwan must not only buy the defensive weapons, but the more important is to show their courage to resist, like when the Ukrainian defended themselves from military invasion by Russia. This will encourage the entire world to protect Taiwan.
