Japan’s Defense Minister Mr. Kishi called for a fundamental strengthening of Japan’s defense capabilities in his speech at the Asian Security Summit in Singapore on June 11.
Minister of Defense Kishi said, “Japan’s drastic strengthening of its defense capabilities will also undermine the will to ignore the rules in the Indo-Pacific region.”
Referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Kishi said, “The world is now in the midst of a competition between countries that want to protect the international order and those that want to ignore the rules and change the international order by force.”
He added that “Russia will intensify its military activities in the Far East and the Pacific, which could further deepen its relations with Communist China,” and urged the need to strengthen Japan’s defense capabilities.
