On June 11th, according to the main foreign media reported that, the European Parliament Speaker Roberta Mestalla said at the Democratic Summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, that the European Parliament firmly supported Ukraine’s candidacy to join the European Union.
She went on to urge EU member states to say Ukraine is already part of Europe. The Ukrainian Government hopes to approve Ukraine’s candidacy status at the EU summit scheduled for June 23-24.
It will take several years from the time of applying for EU membership to securing candidate status, but most EU member states support an immediate granting of candidate status, taking into account issues such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. However, it is reported that some countries, including Germany, are negative about the issue.
