HK Government Bans June 4th Commemorations at Victoria Park

To prevent Hong Kong people from gathering to commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the June 4th Tiananmen Square Massacre, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of Hong Kong government announced that from 11 pm on the 3rd, parts of Victoria Park will be closed until half after midnight [0:30am] on June 5th.

The closures include football fields, basketball courts, central lawns, fitness stations, jogging tracks, passages within the area, some entrances and exits along Causeway Road, and the footbridge connecting to the Hong Kong Central Library.

In addition, police members wearing stab-proof vests were arranged to patrol both inside and outside Victoria Park, and searched the belongings of some citizens. Nearby on-street parking has been posted with police notices saying the park will be closed from 8 pm.

The CCP is afraid of the tradition of Hong Kong people gathering in Victoria Park to express condolences and respect to the victims of June 4th and to prevent Hong Kong people from continuing to carry out activities in the name of preventing the spread of the COVID, aka, the CCP Virus. It is reported that since 1990, tens of thousands of people have participated in the candlelight vigils in Hong Kong every year.
