On May 28, Ukraine received Harpoon anti-ship missiles from Denmark and self-propelled howitzers from the United States, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said. These weapons would strengthen the Ukrainian army fighting Russia’s invasion.
The Harpoon is an all-weather, over-the-horizon anti-ship missile that uses active radar guidance and flies above the water to evade defenses. It can be launched from ships, submarines, and aircraft. Well-trained Ukrainian forces can now use Harpoon shore-to-ship missiles and Neptune missiles to sink the Black Sea Fleet and defend Ukraine’s coastline including the southern port of Odesa, Reznikov said on Facebook.
In addition, Ukraine has received a range of heavy artillery pieces, including a modified American-made M109 self-propelled howitzer, which will allow Ukrainian forces to strike targets from longer distances. Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is getting more and more weapons supplies, and the Ukrainian military has approached or surpassed Russia in terms of technology and strike capabilities.
