Zelensky Calls For The West’s Solidarity On Ukraine

At the Davos breakfast on the 25th, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy said that the West remains divided on support for Ukraine’s EU membership, NATO enlargement, and the imposition of sanctions on Russia. He stressed that he prefers to negotiate directly with Putin rather than through intermediaries.

Zelensky shouted at the Russians to withdraw their troops to the front before the Russian aggression began on Feb. 24, saying it was the first step toward negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine will not make concessions and will fight to the end until it recovers its territory.

While thanking the United States for its military assistance to Ukraine, Zelensky criticized European countries for their lack of resolve, particularly Hungary for blocking the EU oil embargo against Russia and Turkey for blocking Finland and Sweden from joining NATO. Zelensky noted that until now, the Ukrainian airspace had not been closed, and the EU and NATO have not accepted Ukraine, which makes it challenging to keep Ukraine’s confidence in the EU. He called on the Western countries to unify their positions on issues of principle, and only a united Europe could give Ukraine a huge advantage against Russia’s resistance to the invasion.
