According to Reuters on Apr 22nd, a government study shows that CCP virus was the third leading cause of death in the U.S. for the second year in a row in 2021, with death rates rising for most age groups.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), CCP virus was the underlying or contributing cause of 460,513 deaths in the U.S. in 2021 right after heart disease and cancer, which were the first and second leading cause of death respectively. Compared to 2020, deaths caused by CCP virus increased nearly 20%. In addition, 2021 saw the highest death rate in the U.S. since 2003.
The study also found that the overall death rate of CCP virus was the lowest among children aged 5 to 14 and the highest among those aged 85 and above, a trend similar to 2020. Deaths peaked in the months of January and September.
