EU Wants More Naval Visits In South China Sea

Taiwan media reported that the EU Indo-Pacific envoy Richard Tibbels said on March 16th that the EU hopes to increase the frequency of naval visits in the South China Sea and may participate in joint military training exercises to promote freedom of navigation and respect for international law. In addition, he also raised concerns about the tense situation in the Taiwan Strait.

He noted that Communist China’s actions in the waters of the South China Sea have triggered heightened tensions with neighboring countries, and the EU is ready to use satellite surveillance to help countries such as the Philippines cope with natural disasters and protect their rights.

The EU has continuously warned that if the situation in the Taiwan Strait gets out of control, the global trading system will be disrupted on a large scale. Richard Tibbels also mentioned that consultations with like-minded partners are underway to prepare accordingly, and it would be a work in progress behind the scenes.
