US House Votes Unanimously 419-0 to Declassify Intel on COVID-19 Origins

On March 10th, the US House of Representatives unanimously voted 419-0 to pass a bill requesting the director of national intelligence Avril Haines to declassify intelligence regarding the origins of the COVID-19 virus. The Senate had previously passed the bill on March 1st with unanimous consent. The bill will now be sent to President Biden to either sign into law or veto.

The Republican Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Mike Turner, who supports the declassification of the documents, stated that the American public deserves answers about all aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, including whether this virus was the result of a lab activity.

Additionally, the Democratic ranking member of the committee, Rep. Jim Himes, called the bill an important first step and thinks transparency on the issue would help silence false theories. As of now, President Biden told reporters he hadn’t decided yet whether he will sign the bill.
