Australian Space Industry Raises Concerns About CCP’s Satellite Surveillance

It was reported on March 4th that James Brown, the head of the trade group the Space Industry Association of Australia, warned that Communist China is strengthening its satellite surveillance capabilities. In February, the United States shot down a CCP spy balloon, which had reportedly been monitoring sensitive military bases throughout the United States. Experts believe that this balloon incident overshadowed CCP’s space surveillance activities.

Brown said Australian people just do not realize that every day they are being listened to and surveilled by CCP satellites that are only 100 to 200 kilometers above their heads. Moreover, the CCP launches hundreds of satellites each year; the number of satellites launched last year surpassed that of the United States.

At the time of that warning, the Australian Defense Space Command announced that it is developing a plan to obtain so-called “soft kill” technology to destroy enemy satellites without creating dangerous debris. Australia hopes to acquire electronic warfare capabilities that can disable satellites to prevent enemy attacks, without using missiles.
