Italy Supreme Court Rejects Communist China’s Extradition Request For The First Time

According to Spanish human rights groups, the Italy Supreme Court of Cassation ruled on March 1, rejecting the extradition of a Chinese citizen to Communist China.

The Chinese citizen sought for extradition by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was the CEO of a well-known company. However, the CCP issued a red notice through Interpol based on alledged suspicion of economic crimes. The Chinese citizen was arrested in the summer of 2022 while passing through Italy.

According to the report from the human rights group, the CCP had detained the CEO’s family members (back in China) for six months without charge of any crime and had resorted to inhumane methods of persecution to force him to return back to Communist China. Even though many European countries have signed extradition treaties with Communist China, including France, Italy, and Spain; the treaty stipulates that extradition for political reasons and facing the death penalty will not be allowed.

As was reported this is the first time that the Italy Supreme Court has rejected the extradition request of Communist China. The ruling of Italy’s Supreme Court believes that evidence provided by the defense shows that extraditing a person to China will cause Italy to violate its obligations under the European Convention on human rights.
