US Offers Nuclear Submarines To Australia Under AUKUS Agreement

According to media reports, the United States is providing nuclear submarine technology to Australia under the AUKUS agreement between the US, UK, and Australia. Australian Ambassador to the US, Arthur Sinodinos stated that Australia has assured the US that there will be no leakage of nuclear secrets. In a statement to US think tanks, he also mentioned that when the AUKUS submarine agreement is announced in mid-March, the public will see a “”pure trilateral solution””.

As to whether the transfer of nuclear-powered submarine technology from the US and the UK is subject to international arms trade regulations, Sinodinos stated that the Biden administration has made a lot of efforts to ensure “”seamless technology transfer””. Although the work is not yet complete, progress has been made in the past six months ago.

After 18 months of negotiations, Australian and UK leaders are expected to go to Washington DC this month to jointly announce how the AUKUS agreement will move forward.
