US and Canada Governments Ban TikTok

It was reported on February 28th, that the US and Canada have banned the use of TikTok on government devices starting from February 27th.


The US Federal Chief Information Security Officer Chris DeRusha said: ”This guidance is part of the Administration’s ongoing commitment to securing our digital infrastructure and protecting the American people’s security and privacy.” The US House of Representatives will pass a bill on Tuesday authorizing President Biden to ban the use of TikTok nationwide.


In Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said: “As government takes the significant step of telling all federal employees they can no longer use TikTok on their work phones, many Canadians from business to private individuals will reflect on the security of their own data and perhaps make choices in consequence.” Trudeau added that the TikTok Ban on government devices will send a signal to the general public.


It was also reported that the European Commission and the Council of the European Union also prohibited their employees from using TikTok on work phones last week.
