CCP Adjust Wartime Criminal Procedure Law, Prepare For Military Control

It was reported that the CCP Congress recently announced the adjustment of specific provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law to apply to the military in wartime, sparking speculation that it is preparing for military control in times of war.

According to reports from the CCP’s official media, the CCP’s Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress passed a resolution on February 24 to adjust certain provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law regarding jurisdiction, defense and representation, coercive measures, filing, investigation, prosecution, trial, and execution to suit the characteristics of criminal proceedings during wartime. Taiwanese military experts commented that the CCP authorities may be preparing for possible military conflicts with other countries, such as the use of force against Taiwan. In the event of a war, the situation would require the application of wartime criminal procedures.

A former officer of the Chinese navy believes that the CCP’s move is not only to deal with potential conflicts with Taiwan, but also to prepare for military control within Communist China, as there are many internal conflicts and need the military to control domestic situation and maintain its regime. The introduction of these wartime adaptions to the Criminal Procedure Law will put considerable pressure on the military, but the CCP military and Xi Jinping are not on the same page as a matter of fact.
