The European Commission Bans TikTok on Official Devices

It was reported on February 23rd, 2023, the European Commission banned its staff from using the Communist China social media software TikTok for security reasons.

According to informed sources, on the 23rd, 2023, all EU employees were ordered to delete TikTok from their official devices. If staff insist on keeping TikTok, they must delete work-related applications from their personal mobile phones. European Commission officials were asked to unload TikTok by March 15th, 2023. Otherwise, it will be regarded as not meeting the requirements of the enterprise. Other EU institutions, including the Council and Parliament, will follow this provision with the ban. Government scrutiny of TikTok in the European Union has increased in recent months, and Dutch authorities have now requested a moratorium on TikTok on government devices. The EU says this is to protect the commission’s data and improve cybersecurity.

The U.S. moved in December to ban TikTok from all federal devices, and more than half of U.S. states have banned TikTok, targeting the nationwide ban on TikTok. A bipartisan bill is in progress, and Dutch authorities have now requested a moratorium on TikTok on government devices.
