CCP’s Spy Balloon Might Be The Focus Of China & Japan’s Upcoming Security Talks

According to Japanese media Kyodo News, the governments of Communist China and Japan are planning to hold security talks in Japan this month, attended by high-ranking officials of foreign affairs and defense departments, and they are set to coordinate the meeting.

If it happens, these talks will be the first meeting of the two countries’ officials in Beijing since 2019 when Communist China leader Xi Jinping met former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Previously, the Japanese government announced that the balloons spotted in Japan between 2019 and 2021 were probably CCP’s surveillance balloons and relaxed the requirements for using weapons to shoot them down.

Communist China had expressed opposition to that, whether this security talks can ease tensions will be the focus. Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Mori Takeo and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Defense are expected to attend the talks, they will explain the contents of three security-related documents, including the “National Security Strategy” decided at the cabinet meeting in December last year. The two sides may also exchange opinions on the situation in Taiwan. It was reported that Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met with Communist China President Xi Jinping in Thailand in November last year and reached an agreement to strengthen communication through security talks. Meanwhile, Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi is expected to meet with CCP’s senior diplomat Wang Yi in Germany on February 18, which may also be discussed during this meeting.
