Moldovan Government Dismissed Due To Ukrainian War

It is reported that Moldova’s pro-Western government led by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, has resigned and dissolved after 18 months in power. Former Prime Minister Natalia said on February 10th that the time had come to announce her resignation and that no one could expect her government to solve the many crises caused by Russia’s aggression. Moldova President Maia Sandu accepted Natalia’s resignation and expressed her gratitude for her enormous sacrifice and efforts during this critical time. Sandu’s chosen successor is pro-European national security adviser Dorin Recean. Just before Natalia announced her resignation, it was reported that a Russian (Kalibr) cruise missile had crossed the border between Ukraine and Moldova, and Moldova immediately summoned the Russian ambassador to protest. In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed on February 9th 2023 that Ukraine had obtained a Russian intelligence unit’s plan to “destroy” Moldova. This statement was confirmed by the Moldovan intelligence agency. Moldova is a country in the former Soviet Union with a population of about 2.5 million. At present, the country is suffering from problems such as inflation, a large influx of Ukrainian refugees, and an energy crisis. This is also one of the impacts of Russian’s invasion of Ukraine on the global situation. In addition to the decision of Finland and Sweden to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), this impact also caused the Moldovan government to dissolve under the dual pressure of the economic and political situation.
