US House Speaker McCarthy’s Visit To Taiwan Will Confront CCP’s Aggression

The Pentagon is reportedly in the early stages of preparations for a visit to Taiwan by U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy this spring, according to a U.S. official. This move reflects the Republicans’ determination to make confrontation with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) the main focus of their House majority. Planning for McCarthy’s trip to Taiwan will be a challenging task for the Pentagon, taking into account security logistics and the expected response from China. When Pelosi visited Taiwan, she took a U.S. military plane. In order to prevent the CCP from interfering with Pelosi’s plane and to protect the safety of the speaker, the Pentagon has also prepared for any emergencies in advance. In August last year, the then speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, visited Taiwan. Afterwards, the CCP conducted unprecedented military exercises in six sea areas around Taiwan, and attempted to intimidate Taiwan by launching missiles, sending fighter planes, and warships across the centre line of the Taiwan Strait. McCarthy, who was the minority leader of the House of Representatives at the time, expressed his support for Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and said that if elected speaker, he would also go to Taiwan. After McCarthy took office as speaker, he immediately led the House of Representatives to approve the establishment of a special committee on China to deal with threats from the CCP.
