U.S. Senator John Young Will Visit Taiwan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) announced today that U.S. Senator Todd Young will visit Taiwan from the 16th to the 18th. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Young has always been very concerned about and supportive of our country and has repeatedly co-sponsored bills supporting Taiwan. The visit demonstrates Taiwan’s high regard and friendship, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sincere welcome. AIT noted that the visit is part of Senator Young’s trip to the Indo-Pacific region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that during his stay in Taiwan, Young will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, with Secretary General of the National Security Council Gu Li-Hsiung and Political Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Chen Zheng-qi, and receive a banquet from Foreign Minister Wu Chiu-sup. AIT also said that Young will meet with senior Taiwanese leaders and private sector representatives to discuss U.S.-Taiwan relations, regional security, trade and investment, global supply chains, and other vital issues of mutual interest. Young is the ranking Republican member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the Commerce, Finance, and Small Business Committee. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalls that Young has co-sponsored several joint letters and bills in support of Taiwan, including last year’s Senate joint letter in support of Taiwan’s participation in the Indo-Pacific Economic Architecture, and the previous year’s written questioning of Taiwan’s participation in the U.S. “Overseas Preclearance” case during a Senate Finance Committee hearing on Department of Homeland Security appointments. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) noted that the new session of the U.S. Congress had just begun, and Senator Young’s visit immediately demonstrated the high regard and friendship for Taiwan. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work closely with the new U.S. Congress to deepen the friendly and cooperative relationship between Taiwan and the United States in various fields.
