Sunak Attend COP27 To Urge World To End Fossil Fuels

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will urge world leaders to further and faster the move away from destructive fossil fuels at the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Egypt on the 7th November.

Mr. Sunak would pledge Britain as a clean energy superpower and warn that Fighting global warming was fundamental to future prosperity and security.

The new leader had not intended to attend COP27 and will argue that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine reinforced the importance of transition to renewable energy.

PM would have not attend COP27, Downing Street had confirmed that as he would prioritize “urgent domestic commitments” after inheriting predecessor Liz Truss’ economic crisis.

He was questioned about his concern for the planet’s distress signal, and critics said the inexperienced leader is passing up an opportunity to communicate with the likes of U.S. President Joe Biden and European leaders.

Sunak is expected to call on global leaders gathered in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh not to backslide on commitments made at last year’s COP26 summit in Glasgow, Scotland, intended to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
