Australia Bans Former Military Pilots From Providing Training To Communist China

Following last month’s call for an investigation into the recruitment of former Australian pilots by the Communist China, Australian Defense Minister Richard Marles said on November 9th that the military has been notified to review confidentiality safeguards in response to concerns that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is recruiting foreign pilots and training the CCP’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Marles asked the Defense Department to conduct a detailed review of policies and procedures applicable to Australian defense personnel, particularly those who hold state secrets, to ensure that the review policies and procedures are sound.

Previously, British authorities had said they would make it illegal to continue pilot training activities in the Communist China because of concerns about the CCP’s recruitment of military experts. Canada’s Department of National Defense has also emphasized that retired personnel remain bound by confidentiality agreements.

And the Australian Department of Defense is expected to report the results of this investigation by December 14th.
