Xi Warns U.S.: Sending B-52 Bombers To Australia Could Trigger Arms Race

According to the foreign media report, the U.S. planned to send up to six nuclear-capable B-52 bombers to the Tindal base in northern Australia, and this decision came just one week after the U.S. listed Communist China as its No. 1 security threat. The CCP’s Foreign Ministry threatened that they worsened regional tensions and could trigger an arms race.

In this regard, U.S. Defense Department spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Martin Meiners stated Washington’s plan to send B-52 bombers and an array of aircraft to Australia for joint drills was routine practice in the long-standing alliance and a cornerstone of U.S. foreign and security policy. The U.S. has been in military cooperation with Australia for decades. Other U.S. military aircraft have frequently visited Australia to participate in joint exercises for years and would continue to do so.

Despite Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Putin’s nuclear threats to the world, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin still insisted on describing Communist China as the only competitor out there, who became increasingly aggressive. Meiners said the U.S. has been committed to its partnership with Western and regional allies including Australia in an effort to maintain security in the Indo Pacific through enhanced air cooperation and ensure peace and stability in the region.
