
On Oct. 21, on the 240th day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told at a leaders’ summit that the EU will provide 1.5 billion euros a month in aid to Ukraine in 2023, aiming to help rebuild the country and fight Russia’s military invasion. In 2023, the Ukrainian authorities estimated monthly basic needs of 3 billion to 4 billion euros, in addition to the 1.5 billion euros per month provided by the European Union, the United States and international agencies will provide the rest of the funds. She said that this aid from the EU is a reliable and stable source of funding for Ukraine. The EU has so far aided Ukraine with 19 billion euros this year.
