NATO Begins Nuclear Exercises In Response To Russia’s Threat

It was reported on October 17th that 14 of NATO’s 30 member states started their long-planned annual nuclear exercises in the northwestern Europe in response to Russia-Ukraine war and Putin’s threats to use any means to defend Russian territory. NATO said the maneuver involved around 60 aircrafts including the fighters as well as surveillance and refueling planes. The package exercises named Steadfast Noon were held once a year. U.S. long-range B-52 bomber will also participate in the drills conducted at least 1,000 kilometers from Russian borders. The maneuvers will last until October 30th, but NATO approved no media access. NATO said the exercises began in Belgium, which hosted Steadfast Noon in 2022, and extended to the marginal sea in North-East Atlantic and the airspace of UK. Fighters capable of carrying nuclear warheads took part in the drills, but no live bomb got involved. The exercises have been planned before Putin sent his troops into Ukraine this February. Moscow usually holds its own annual drills at the same time, and NATO expected Putin to conduct his nuclear maneuver sometime this month..
