Xi Jinping’s 20th Congress Held Amid Numeral Crisis

On October 14th, media reported that Xi Jinping, the leader of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), would take the stage this Sunday to launch a historic congress to continue his rule with a third term, cementing his position as communist China’s most powerful dictator since Mao Zedong.

In order to hold the 20th Congress of the CCP, Xi Jinping strengthened “Zero Covid” policy, cracked down on the economy, and tightened control of people in the country. Moreover, his support for Russian President Putin further alienates the regime from the West.

Even so, some diplomats, economists and analysts say Xi will consolidate his grip on power.

Political opacity in communist China has grown steadily since Xi Jinping took power a decade ago, which means anyone can only guess who will be appointed to key positions. The CCP’s one-party dictatorship has been evolved into as a one-person dictatorship.
