Taipei Vows Counterattack if Beijing Intrudes into its Territory

On October 5, Taipei made it clear that it would not allow any PLA incursion into its territory and would regard it as an act of war, sending a strong message to Beijing. Taiwan’s Defense Minister, Chiu Kuo-cheng, stated that “if PLA fighter jets or drones intrude into its territorial airspace, it will be regarded as a “first strike.” However, he did not specify how Taiwan would respond if PLA breached territorial limits. Earlier Defense Minister said that Taiwan would not be the first to strike, which meant that they would not fire unless PLA fired at them. But now Taiwan has changed its tune. Communist China’s PLA has breached Taiwan’s territory multiple times and harassed through drone incursions, which led them to vow a counterattack. Last month, Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen said the island’s military would take “necessary and forceful countermeasures as appropriate” against CCP’s gray zone warfare tactics.
