U.S. Restricts Communist China From Gaining Access To High-Performance Computing Technology

On October 3rd, it was reported that the Biden administration is expected to announce as soon as this week with new measures to restrict companies from Communist China to gain access on high-performance computing technology. This is a significant step to cut off the Communist China’s access to the advanced semiconductor technology which could be used in the CCP’s military.

The informants said a number of Chinese communist companies, government research labs and other entities are expected to face restrictions similar to Huawei’s path. Also, any companies who are using U.S.-made technology will be barred from selling to the entities of Communist China targeted by the Biden administration. At this time, it is unclear which CCP’s companies and labs will be affected.

Biden administration also plans to restrict the sale of U.S.-made microchips to the most powerful supercomputing and data center projects of the Communist China, to inhibit the ability of major academic institutions and cyber companies such as Alibaba and Tencent to acquire the components needed to build the leading data centers and supercomputers. As supercomputer performance levels rise, these measures could severely hinder the CCP’s ability to develop powerful number-crunching technologies.

Just last month, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said in a speech that the technology export controls “can be a new strategic asset in the U.S. and allied toolkit to impose costs on adversaries, and even over time degrade their battlefield capabilities”.
