CIA Director Stated That The U.S. Must Take Russian Nuclear Threat Seriously

On October 4, it was reported that CIA Director William Burns stated in an interview that it is difficult to discern if Putin’s warning to deploy nuclear weapons in Ukraine is a bluff or a genuine threat, but William Burns added that the US must take these threats seriously. According to Burns, the US intelligence community has not seen any tangible evidence that Putin is close to using nuclear weapons, but that does not imply they are not intending to do so.

Putin and other Russian leaders’ strong statements and threats are risky; they are highly irresponsible for sustaining peace and safety in people’s lives. When asked if Putin was bluffing, William Burns responded: “At this moment, it’s difficult to say. And, as I previously stated, we must take it very seriously, monitor for signals of actual preparations, and also — and this is the responsibility of policymakers, and I am no longer one — explain very plainly the catastrophic repercussions that would result from any use of nuclear weapons…

” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin also blasted Putin’s illegitimate invasion of four eastern and southern Ukrainian areas. He cautioned that Putin, as the leader who did not care about people’s lives, was the only one who decided to use nuclear weapons and that no one could stop him. It’s the same as when he decided to attack Ukraine. Putin will make another brutal decision that will gravely affect humanity if he is not stopped.
