Japanese Scholars Advocate Government to Respond Effectively To “Taiwan’s Affairs”

On Sep 30th, Japan -Taiwan Friends Association and East Asian Situation Research Association held a seminar in Tokyo to discuss the issues of Japan, Taiwan, and Communist China. The attendees say that Taiwan has a complete form of an independent sovereign country, which the Japanese government cannot ignore, and should think about how to respond effectively when something happens in Taiwan.

The participants said Beijing launched missiles towards Tokyo’s exclusive economic zone during its military drills this August. It shows that Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s idea that a Taiwan emergency is a Japanese emergency has become a situation that Tokyo has to confront. Over the years, the Japanese government desperately avoided and discouraged the international community’s hard line against CCP to prevent Beijing from going to extremes. However, the CCP’s autocracy posed an increasing threat to democracies worldwide.

Yasuhide Nakayama, former vice Minister of Defense, said in light of CCP’s persistent cyberattack on Japan, a state of war has existed between Tokyo and Beijing. Faced with CCP’s cybersecurity threat, Taiwan and Japan had to cooperate to strengthen defense. Furthermore, Taiwan should not exclude any option to confront the threat. Declaration of independence might lead to war, but it remained an option to guard against CCP’s intimidation.
