Biden: US Will Never Recognize Moscow’s Territorial Claims Over Ukraine’s Territory

According to American media report on Sep 30th, President Biden vowed that the US would never recognize Russia’s claim over Ukrainian territory and Washington would impose new sanctions on Moscow as a result of Putin’s attempt to annex any part of Ukraine.

Biden described the referendums held by pro-Kremlin forces in Ukrainian territory as a complete sham. Biden pointed out Ukrainians sacrificed their lives to defend their homeland and people every day and the US would never recognize Russia’s claims on Ukraine sovereign territory. He reiterated Moscow’s invasion of Kyiv was a flagrant violation of the UN Charter and the basic principle of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

There was no independent monitoring for the referendum in the Russian-occupied Ukraine, which was held between September 23 and 27. People in Russian were intimidated by armed soldiers to vote in favor of supporting the annexation.

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said Kremlin’s any attempt to annex Kyiv’s territory based on the use of force violated the international law. Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan also expressed his opposition to the plan in a phone call with Putin.
