On August 26th, Australia appointed a former High Court judge to investigate the former Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s secret appointments to some department roles during the peak of the CCP virus pandemic, according to related media reports.
The incumbent Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that Virginia Bell will lead an investigation into Morrison’s dual appointments in various departments, including health and finances, as well as treasury and home affairs. The report is expected to hand in by November 25th.
Albanese briefed journalists, saying “We need to have a quick and appropriate inquiry, which is not about the politics, but about how this happened, why it happened, who knew about it.” He added, “It’s important so that people can have confidence in our parliamentary democracy.”
The Solicitor-General of Australia said this week that while the secret appointments have legal standing, however, it has “fundamentally undermined” the image of a responsible government.
