Russia Attacked Ukraine on Independence Day, 22 Civilian Dead

It was reported that August 24th is Ukraine’s Independence Day, and 31st anniversary of the nation’s breakaway from former Soviet Union. On that day, Russia launched a missile attack on the Chaplino train station in the central region of Dnipropetrovsk and killed 22 people. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced it as an ugly attack.

Speaking after of the missile attack, Zelensky declared, that Chaplino is their pain today, and as of this moment, a total of 22 people died, including 5 who were burned in the car. The attack also killed a child as young as 11 years old as Russian rockets destroyed his house. Earlier, President Zelenskyy reminded Ukrainians to remain vigilant ahead of Wednesday’s commemorative celebrations. At that time, a missile attacked a nuclear power plant in Crimea, injuring 12 civilians nearby.

On Independence Day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson made a surprise visit to Kiev, and praised Ukraine’s 6-month resistance. “You defended your right to live in peace, in freedom, and that’s why Ukraine won,” said Johnson.

Johnson unveiled a £54 million ($64 million) aid package that includes 2,000 state-of-the-art drones as well as anti-tank ammunition. At the same time, the United States also announced $3 billion in new military assistance.
