VP Harris Will Attend Japan Former Prime Minister Abe’s Funeral

It is reported that on Sunday, U.S. Vice President Kamla Harris has planned to attend the State Funeral of Abe, the former Prime Minister of Japan in Tokyo next month.

She will replace the President Joe Biden to attend the ceremony held on 27th September. This will be her first visit since she took office as the vice President in January 2021.

The former president Obama also has planned to attend. It is reported, that U.S. Government is scheduling to send a pre-team to Japan in the end of August.

On 7th August, Abe, the longest serving in the Prime Minister Position, had been assassinated amid a public speech in an election campaign on a street of the west city of Nara. Harris is the first black and first Asian Vice-President of U.S. She expressed her condolence to this tragic event.

“He was a close friend of the United States and on this tragic day, we stand with our Japanese friends in honoring him and condemning this horrific act of violence,” Harris said on her twitter.
There is a public disputation whether it is reasonable to hold the state funeral for Abe aiding by the state funds. In recent common probe, 53% interviewees hold opposing attitude.
